Review: Donburi – Japanese Food

Restaurant Location: 505 Highway 7 East Unit 93-95, Markham ON, L3T 7T1

I always had a dream about traveling to Japan and eating lots of curry. Once I saw the picture of the Donburi restaurant in Markham, I wanted to get out of my pj’s and run to eat the pork katsu. The restaurant was quite cozy and spacious. There was a lot of seating and the service was good. It took me a while to eat everything but it did its job. It certainly had me feeling very full.

I didn’t end up ordering any dessert because I was too full from the pork katsu. Overall, the curry was good, but nothing special to the point where I can’t live without it. If you are a curry lover like me, I would recommend a place called Kaiju. Maybe I’ll do a review on it in the future!

Overall, I think this is a great place to go if you are craving some Japanese food.

Review: MABU Generation – Taiwanese Food

Restaurant Location: 3235 Hwy 7 #23, Markham, ON L3R 3P9

Friday is the best day of the week; can we all agree on that? My friend and I decided to celebrate the end of the week with the usual get-together. We stumbled upon MABU Generation and noticed that there were a lot of people inside waiting for a seat, so we looked at each other and said why not. The wait was around one hour and it was a spur of the moment thing, so we both decided to wait in line.

It gave us more time to look at the menu and catch up. Since it was extra chilly that day, we both decided to order the house special hot pot with everything included. After the long wait, we finally made it inside and were totally excited about the personal hot pot meal (tip: book a reservation beforehand).

Hot pot is the perfect meal on a chilly day. The selected items of your choice boils in a soup base, all you have to do is take it out – dip it into the desired sauce and eat it! The ones we had included a little bit of everything. There was a lot of seating within the restaurant, with a bar in the back. The décor gave an overall hipster vibe to the place.

The personal hot pot was around $16 dollars. If you are not a big fan of spice, just let them know to lower the spice level. The broth base is quite spicy if you are not a regular spicy food eater. For dessert, my friend decided to order grilled Japanese rice cakes. That was pretty delicious as well since we rarely see a restaurant having this served as a dish.

If you are still hungry and yearning for dessert that isn’t as pricey, head out to the place right beside it called sugar marmalade. They only take cash but it is a great place to chill with your friends.

Review: Kara Mia Restaurant – Canadian Food

Restaurant Location: 7690 Markham Rd, Markham, ON L3S 3K1

Since I am always down to try new restaurants, I decided to try Kara Mia. The weather was a bit gloomy and I wanted some hearty, creamy (get me fat) type of food. The best thing about the restaurant was that it was fairly new and it was halal – so you can totally bring your friends that can only eat halal meat. In addition, the restaurant was clean and had pretty décor which is always a plus!

After I browsed the menu, I decided to order the Fettuccine Kara Mia. It has diced chicken breast sautéed with sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and fettuccine pasta in Alfredo sauce topped with feta cheese. It was delish! It was a bit too creamy towards the end but I broke up the thickness by having some of their saffron poutine. The service was a bit slow but I didn’t mind it all too much. Overall, I would go to this restaurant for a meal to fill the tummy. Nothing out of the extraordinary.

Review: Chef Lin Restaurant – Chinese Food

Restaurant Location: 8 Washington St, Markham, ON L3P 2R2

I recently was browsing Yelp and found a place I’ve never tried, with astounding reviews so I decided to check it out. Since I was going to be in the Markham area that day, I decided to drop by for dinner. I was not in a good mood that particular day, so I was depending on the food at the restaurant to cheer me up. When we arrived at Chef Lin’s, my first impression was great! It was a small, quaint restaurant that’s family owned. I don’t know why but my mood got better after I got to the restaurant. Maybe I was just hungry (this happens very often).

We ordered a lot of food, but I was most impressed with the beef noodle soup. When I say impressed, I mean it tasted like home!

We also ordered the General Tao’s chicken which was pretty good too, but REALLY, let’s go back to talking about the beef noodle soup.

I can hands down say that the beef noodle soup here is the best. It tastes very similar to Mr. Lee noodles in China. The broth is so flavorful, it taste like overall, awesomeness. Go try it for yourself and let me know if it’s awesome too!
